Signal Strength improved: ABSOLUTLEY!
Noticeable difference in the signal strength numbers.
The signal
strength improved with the SignalBoost attached to the iPhone here
from -99 to -70
The closer you get the Universal
Connector thing to the phone the better. I think the tape method gives
a little better numbers than the Velcro. The tape does better but
I have to take it off and on too often to use it. The Velcro thing is a
pain in the butt.
Antenna only in Test Mode
See if the signal strength improves
in Test Mode:
If it does, not much. I really
don’t think this helps much.

Black Paper Tape can replace the
Velcro strips:
Black Paper Tape
Cinematographers use black paper tape for all sorts
of tasks. Use with an iPhone is just the latest.
Black Paper Tape - easy to tear and easy to unwind.
Ideal for holding the Universal Connector to an iPhone. Tear off a strip
of paper tape. Attach the Universal Connector to the iPhone with the paper
tape - no Velcro. After use, discard the strip of tape. Repeat the
next time the adapter is to be attached to the iPhone. Simple.

Signal Strength
Wilson Tech Support | Cell Phone
Test Mode
With your iPhone Test Mode display you can see a signal
strength read out on your iPhone at your location | -50 is very strong
| -100 is very weak. With a SignalBoost connected to an iPhone one of our
customers could see an improvement on his iPhone from a signal strength
of -99 to -70 and thus fewer dropped calls on his iPhone.
AT&T uses 850MHz
almost exclusively.
There are only a very few markets that use the 1900
band and those are in areas where AT&T couldn't get an 850 license.
As an example, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Nebraska, Iowa,
Illinois, and virtually the entire East coast only have 850 service. 1900
is only used in one small county in Idaho, Phoenix, and in large cities
where the 850 license wasn't available. Since 850 was the first frequency
and Cellular One (Craig MaCaw) and then AT&T Wireless and also Cingular
had the first licenses, your will find almost 850 as an exclusive frequency.
Typically an AT&T iPhone will first seek a 1900MHz signal and then
go to 850MHz.

John Wilson
Hello John Wilson:
We tried a Wilson Antenna connected
directly to an iPhone - not much improvement.
SignalBoost by Wilson Electronics
Expensive - but it works. $270 plus an external Antenna
There is an antenna built into the iPhone.
The SignalBoost ads 3 watts of signal like
an old Motorola Bag Phone.
Typically a Signal Booster amp is directly connected
to a cell phone through an antenna/test port.
Some cell phones like the iPhone have no antenna port
so Wilson made a Universal Connector that works
with their SignalBoost.
It works on any cell phone
without an antenna port, including an iPhone.
An iPhone has a good Test Mode.
Test Mode displays GAIN from -50 (strong) to -100
(weak)
You can see the signal strength improve with a SignalBoost.
